Record

I am very proud of my 100% voting record. My decisions are always based on input from my constituents – the residents of District 18."

In 10 years of legislative service --- encompassing five regular and two special sessions –Mark has never missed a vote on a bill. Mark continues to fight for issues and interests which affect the families who live in District 18: education, crime, seniors’ issues, veterans, women and children, health care and the economy.

During the last legislative session, Mark was the primary sponsor of nine bills, and co-sponsored another 12 bills, more than half of which became new laws. (See highlight box.) He was one of only six legislators honored by the Nevada Conservation League for a perfect voting record on environmental issues during the 2003 legislative session.

Perhaps the most significant achievement of the 2003 session was the passage of AB 7, which toughened Nevada’s drunk driving laws by lowering the legal blood alcohol level to .08. The measure also saved the State of Nevada $28.4 million in federal highway funds. It was the seventh time that Mark introduced such legislation.

"The passage of AB 7 shows the importance of continuing to fight for what’s right for Nevada. It is a very good feeling to have introduced important legislation that will save lives."

Mark is a recognized leader in the Nevada Legislature. He has served as the Assembly Majority Whip for the last two sessions, and served as Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee since 2003. He has served as Vice Chair of three other committees during his legislative career. In addition, Mark was selected as Chairman of the Legislative Commission’s Interim Subcommittee to Study Misdemeanors in 2001.

The Assembly has 11 standing committees; Mark has hands-on experience in eight of those committees.:

  • Economic Development & Tourism (1995, Vice Chair)

  • Education (1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003)

  • Government Affairs (2003, Chairman)

  • Health & Human Services (1997-Vice Chair, 1999, 2001)

  • Judiciary (1995, 1997, 1999-Vice Chair, 2001-Vice Chair)
