A
native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Mark Manendo moved to the
neighborhood 22 years ago, when his parents relocated
their family. He graduated from Chaparral High School in
1985, and often returns there to speak to government and
social studies classes.Mark also attended the Area
Trade Technical Center and Clark County Community
College (now CCSN), receiving two degrees in 1989 and
1990.
Although first elected as your Assemblyman in 1995,
Mark was bitten by the political bug much earlier. His
mom, Marie, ran for a seat on the local school board in
Erie, and lost. “I never got over that, but thankfully
my mom did,” said Mark. “But that experience taught me
the importance of a strong public education system, and
to fight for public school funding.”
Mark became involved in District 18 issues in 1990,
when he worked for his predecessor’s campaign. During
the following election, Mark ran the campaign. Then, in
1994, when his predecessor expressed an interest in
retiring from the Assembly, Mark threw his hat into the
ring, and the residents of District 18 have benefited
ever since.
You have probably met Mark right where you live, as
he is committed to walking each neighborhood in this
district. Mark’s goals during this (and every) campaign
are: (1) to reach out to his constituents to know what
issues concern them the most; (2) to educate and inform
residents about the importance of participating in the
voting process; and (3) to inform voters about the work
that has been accomplished in your community, and the
need to do even more. Mark is passionate about
encouraging new voters, and is rarely without a stack of
voter registration forms!
Mark works as a recruiter for the Community College
of Southern Nevada. He enjoys spending time with his
mom, his sister and brother-in-law, and his two nephews.
In his spare time, he plays basketball and enjoys movies
and music – and volunteering in the community. |
